IIT Madras Ph.D. and M.S. (Research) for the academic year 2017-18

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has invited applications for admission to Ph.D. and M.S. (Research) for the academic year 2017-18.

Admission to the Research Programme for Ph.D. and M.S. is open throughout the academic year from July 2017 to June 2018. Applications can be submitted at any time by eligible candidates for admission to Ph.D. and M.S. (by Research) programmes under regular/part-time / external schemes of IIT Madras. However, applications received till 02.04.2017 only will be considered for July 2017 admission

Halftime Teaching Research Assistantship (HTRA) funded by MHRD as well as fellowships from other funding agencies like CSIR, UGC, DST, ICMR, ICAR, AICTE etc. are available for those who have qualified for these schemes.

Shortlisted candidates will be called for interview and/or test by the Selection Committees of the respective departments from time to time. Financial Assistance (Half-Time Teaching Research Assistantship) will be as follows.

For Ph.D./Direct Ph.D./Upgraded to Ph.D: Rs. 25,000/- p.m. for first 2 years &  Rs. 28,000/- p.m. for subsequent 3 years.

For M.S: Rs.12,400/- p.m. for the period of eligibility.

Candidates with B.E/B.Tech can apply to pursue Direct Ph.D. (M.S. + Ph.D.) in Engineering/ Sciences after their Bachelor’s Degree. Meritorious M.S. scholars with CGPA>8.0 are eligible to upgrade to the Ph.D. programme in the same department and will receive two degrees (M.S. + Ph.D) on completion of the programme. M.S. scholars receiving HTRA are eligible for enhanced fellowship after upgradation. Opportunities to carry out Joint Ph.D. between IITM & reputed Foreign Universities also exist. The last date for submission of completed application form through on-line for July 2017 admission is 02.04.2017. Intimation on test and interview or interview indicating the date of interview will be given by the respective departments through email.

The last date for departments to display their selected candidates list in the Department Website will be 02.06.2017.

The last date for issue of admission letters to candidates by Departments / Academics Section is 09.06.2017. Admissions will be done on 10.07.2017. Date of Orientation is 11.07.2017. Date of Photo Session and Data Entry (For ID Card Purpose) is 12.07.2017

One Application has to be submitted for each department. Application Fee is Rs.100/- for GN/OBC-NCL Male candidates-; Rs.50/- for GN/OBC-NCL Female candidates, PwD candidates and SC/ST candidates. Payment can be made Online by Net banking, Credit Card or Debit Card. If online transaction fails, Application fee is to be paid by a Demand Draft drawn in favour of ‘The Registrar, IIT Madras’ and sent to with application No. to, ‘The Joint Registrar (Academic), Indian Institute of Technology Madras, IV Floor, Administration Building, IIT Campus, Chennai - 600 036

An application number is generated after finishing the payment process. A mail containing application will be sent to mail ID. In case the mail is not delivered, use "apply to department" menu to download application. Candidates called for written test/interview should bring with them Printed copy of the application submitted online along with Original and photo copies of relevant certificates.
